CONCISENESS EXERCISE
Adam Smith, the founder of modern economics, proposed a theory in the eighteenth century that made him controversial since then. He was born in Scotland and educated in England. His first study of political economy "The weath of nations" was published in 1776, the same year that Americans declared his independence from England. His book pointed out the interdependence of freedom and order, and free trade laws. Although his thinking did not affect economic policies during his lifetime, its influence in the next century was considerable. Among economists `the invisible hand´ and `laissez-faire´ are Smith´s name synonymous. History has made his ideas more controversial because to conservative businesspeople he will be `a good man that understood how business works´ and to liberal reformers `an evil man that sold the average citizen down the river´. Both of these reactions are extreme and indicate that the controversy aroused by Smith´s ideas is still alive.

CONCISENESS
EXERCISE 1.-
This study went over comments on 110 first drafts of essays by 47 university ESL students, considering the pragmatic goals for and the linguistic features of each comment. Drafts of each essay were examined to observe the influence of the first draft commentary on the students´revisions and asses whether the changes that were made in response to the teacher´s feedback actually improved the essays. The author thinks that a significant proportion of the comments led to substantive student revision, and that were some commentaries that helped more than others. The final results are suggestive of important implications for L2 writing instruction and for future studies on a vital topic.

STUDENTS RIGHTS

Because students are the most important part in the educational process they must be taken into account seriously by those who are administrating universities. The students also have to be treated as part of the selection group of teachers and curriculum. They should be questioned about the planning and scheduling in order to hear their opinions since that affect their lives, those have to be flexible and convenient. After all, students have been a support in certain moments when conflicts requiered their voices as in 1960´s and 1970´s when they demonstrated fearful against injustices.
